Solid Hardware

I have 60+ Insteon devices, of almost every single variety. Many have been in place for 8 years or more. I recently transitioned away from the hub to the USB PLM, with an EISY controller, it has improved the flexibility of Insteon to work with other 3rd party smart home ecosystem. I was bummed when the cloud services were turned off a few years back but the new management seem to have full redeemed the brand. I recommend Insteon hardware with the hub to novice smart homers and the USB PLM for more advanced users.

Works Well When It Does

The PLM I has for six years failed during the recent Insteon famine. When the PLM came back to inventory I ordered a new one, but it was dead on arrival. Insteon replaced it with another that failed in 30 days. I’m now on my third. Insteon support has been efficient and overall excellent.

I use the PLM with Indigo on Mac. I have over 100 Insteon devices, several virtual devices, and connectivity to Apple HomeKit. This ALL works very nicely, but the PLM is a single point of failure for all advanced features beyond those encoded into the Insteon devices themselves. I’ve now set myself up with a spare PLM. Love that device!

I have been using Insteon since 2008 and have automated four houses. I have written my own custom software using the USB PLM (Originally for the Serial version). This order was for a replacement plus a spare since a lighting storm killed the PLM. The other 13 devices where OK; although re-linking 13 devices took some time.

USB Modem Interface (PLM) is far superior to the 2242 hub

I have swapped to using the 2413U in place of the 2242 hub. It works far better and there is no subscription fee.

Insteon changing to a paid subscription fee was ill advised, since everybody bought the hub with the knowledge that it was free. AFter investing over $500 in Insteon -roducts, their subscription changes are really bad.

The 2413U really helps. Even better is the fact that it does not use the cloud. I have been hacked through the cloud on numerous occasions, and this will stop that.

All in all, I really like the 2413U.
